Value refers to darkness or lightness of color. It is directly related to amount of light falling on an object and reflecting back to the human eye. More the light is reflected from certain area of the painting, more brighter it should appear. Creating full range of Value creates illusion of Form and light in art piece .
Value can be measured through Value Scale. Lighter values of a color are called Tints. Darker Values of the color are called Shades of that color.
Tints are used to create parts of the object which are reflecting more light i.e Highlights.
Shades are used to create darker parts of an object and shadows ,from where less or no light is reflecting back to the eye.
